How the Adventure Works

It's Simple. Follow the Trail.

Learn it · Practice it · Prove it · Earn it

Conquer the Wild turns the ten commands every dog should know into a climb your whole family can see on the wall. There are no classes to attend and no tests to schedule. You and your dog set the pace.

  • Learn it.

Your pup learns the command however suits your family: at home with the Trail Guide, in a Barks training program or with any trainer you trust.

  • Practice it.

Short, happy sessions around the house, on walks and out in the world. The guide gives you a home-practice tip for every skill.

  • Prove it.

The moment that matters: you give the cue, not a trainer, and your dog does it for you. That is what each badge celebrates.

  • Earn it.

Place the Trail Badge on your map and move one step closer to the summit. Any order, any pace. Ten badges, one summit.

The one rule of the trail: a badge belongs to the dog and the family. It's earned when someone in your household gives the cue and your dog does it, no treat waved in front of their nose. A trainer can teach it, but you prove it. That's how the training moves from the lesson into your home.

The Ten Trail Badges

Ten Commands. Ten Badges. One Summit.

The ten skills that make the biggest difference at home, on walks and everywhere in between. The four groups keep the trail organized; they aren't levels. Earn the badges in any order, and if your dog already knows a few, claim them on day one.

Good to Know

Trail Questions, Answered

What families ask before starting the climb. Tap a question to open it.

Who can join Conquer the Wild?

Any family with a dog. You don't need to be a Barks & Wildlife training client, a boarding client or a client at all. Puppies, adult dogs and seniors are all welcome; the standards are practical pet-dog skills, not competition obedience.

Do we have to train with Barks & Wildlife?

No. Teach the skills at home with the Trail Guide, enroll in one of our training programs, work with another trainer you trust, or claim badges your dog already knows. The Full Kit + Video Lessons includes step-by-step lessons from our trainers if you'd like guidance at home.

Who decides when a badge is earned?

You do. The Trail Guide spells out exactly what each badge asks for, and the one rule is that a member of your household gives the cue and your dog does it, without being lured through it with food. Hold that line and the badge means something. When you finish, you're welcome to bring your pup by either retreat so a Bark Ranger can sign the certificate and celebrate with you.

Do the badges have to be earned in order?

No. The four groups (The Basics, Good Manners, Self-Control and Trail Ready) organize the trail, but they aren't levels. Earn the badges in whatever order suits your dog, and earn several in one day if they're ready.

What if my dog already knows some of the commands?

Then they've got a head start. Run through the standard for each one, and if your dog does it on your cue, place the badge. Plenty of dogs claim three or four on the first day.

Can my kids take part?

Absolutely, with a parent or guardian alongside. Any regular household handler can give the cue, and kids are often the proudest badge-placers in the family. Keep setups safe and age-appropriate, especially for Drop It and Leave It.

What's the difference between the three kits?

The Trail Kit ($100) has everything you need to earn all ten badges and reach the summit: map, guide, all ten Trail Badges, the Summit Badge, certificate, vehicle badge and Summit Treat. The Full Kit ($150) adds the Summit Tag collar charm for the ceremony. The Full Kit + Video Lessons ($250) adds online step-by-step video lessons from our trainers for every skill.

How do I get a kit?

Buy online and we'll ship it to you, or pick one up at the front desk at our Spring, TX or Longville, LA retreat. Kits launch in January 2027.

What happens when we reach the summit?

Place the big Summit Badge at the peak of your map, fill in the certificate, clip on the Summit Tag and hand over the Summit Treat. Then put the "My Dog Conquered the Wild" badge on your car and take the victory lap. If you'd like it to feel official, bring your pup by either retreat for a signed certificate and a graduation photo.

What are the Advanced Trails?

Follow-on adventures for dogs who've Conquered the Wild: the Adventure Trail (outings), Safety Trail (the skills that matter when something goes wrong), Social Trail (people and other dogs) and Trail Tricks (just for fun). They'll open one at a time after launch, each with its own map and badges. No dates yet.

Can we do this in a Barks training program?

Yes, and it pairs naturally. Our trainers teach the same ten skills in Everyday Obedience and Board & Train, and they'll help you know when your dog is ready for you to give the cue and earn the badge yourself.

What if we lose a badge or the map gets damaged?

Text us. We'll help you replace what you need so the climb can continue.

Still have a question? Text Spring at (832) 447-8302 or Longville at (337) 317-3659.
